Dubbo Disaster II

By Steve Mavin

The Rabbitohs were off their game today and never really got going against a Raiders team that came to Apex Oval, Dubbo to play footy.

JJ represents Rabbitohs TV at Apex Oval, Dubbo today.

The 32-12 loss to the ‘Green Machine’ is the 2nd disastrous result in 2 years after the Panthers absolutely smashed Souths last year at the same NSW country venue.

Souths lost Junior Tatola in the first tackle of the game to a head knock and he was a huge loss after being one of the teams best last week against the Warriors.

There were however no excuses for a lacklustre performance peppered with drop balls, penalties and poor defence for the majority of the game.

Our injured captain Cameron Murray may not be far away from a return, Latrell Mitchell is still getting treatment in the US but hopefully back soon and Mark Nicholls is due back next week as well.

Dubbo Boost are Souths fans.

Some talented depth returning to the ranks may be the answer to lift the sides on field play to an acceptable level.

In one of the only bright spots on a dark day, Souths winger Alex Johnston moved to 2nd all time on the Rabbitohs try scoring list equalling Benny Wearings total of 144.

AJ sits just 2 behind Nathan Merritts 146 so 3 more tries will see him break the record.

Next week Souths take on the Wests Tigers on Saturday 5.30pm at Accor Stadium and the Rabbitohs TV team will present the post match function in the P&O Members deck.

Our Jersey Flegg boys got off to a great start, tries to Carson Kaho and Romano Cook saw them take a 10 nil lead into the sheds at half time.

The wheel well and truly fell off the wagon in the 2nd half when the Knights ran in 6 unanswered tries. Thomas Cant certainly can kick goals, slotting 6 from 6 to punish the Bunnies into a 36-10 loss.

A perfect day for footy at Redfern.

Darren Brown and Grant Chappell were at the ground reporting for Rabbitohs TV. Browny performed the ground announcing for the womens game and both our boys were on the field to interview Rabbitoh #1179 Trent Peoples for the fans.

The Rabbitohs Knock On Effect NSW Cup team continued their winning ways making it 4 wins on the trot with a big 37-14 win over the Knights.

That victory moves the team up to 3rd on the ladder and will undoubtably give head coach Jason Demetriou something to ponder selection wise when he picks the 1st grade team to take on the Warriors next weekend in magic round.

Powerful winger Izaac Thompson is one man that has raised his hand to be considered for promotion after he scored 4 tries. Souths talented number 6 Jack Campagnolo chimed in with 2 tries and ‘Baby’ Davvy Moale backed up from 16 minutes on the field in the Broncos loss to score a meat pie of his own.

Dean Hawkins kicked 4 goals and Pete Mamouzelos showed his versatilty, knocking a field goal over in the 78th minute.

“My first thought was that’s a send off, he’s got to go” Grant Chappell on the Karl Lawton spear tackle.

On Rabbitohs TV this evening Grant Chappell gave us a comprehensive recap of the Rabbitohs 40-22 victory over the Sea Eagles on Friday at Central Coast Stadium, Gosford.

Chaps pulled no punches and told us he thought Karl Lawton had to go after he lifted Souths skipper Cameron Murray into a dangerous position in the 8th minute of the game.

The NRL match review committee agreed and Lawton will spend up to four weeks off the field if he takes the early plea or five weeks if he chooses to fight the charge and is found guilty.

Chaps covers all the game action in our video and also points out that big Tommy Burgess has become ‘our most capped Burgess brother’.
