Wayne Bennett has asked the NRL to look at the Panthers illegally blocking the Rabbitohs kick pressure.
Bennett says it happened last time the Rabbitohs met the Panthers & occurred 3 times in the 2nd half without penalty. Bennett said that he has heard the Panthers train & practice this blocking tactic but he expects the Panthers to be penalised accordingly if & when it occurs again.
Bennett said that the Panthers run blocks & they run them on a consistent basis & asked that both teams be officiated fairly.
Wayne also said that the Rabbitohs will be 1-17 & Blake Taaffe will be playing fullback.
In todays Rabbitohs Zoom press confernce Wayne Bennett confirmed that the team will be 1-17 as named.
Coach Bennett told us that he was pleased that he’s been able to rest a lot of his starting side & provide an opportunity for some of the rest of the squad to gain some valuable game time.
When asked about the fitness of Adam Reynolds, Wayne with tongue firmly in cheek said “If he was a horse we’d spell him”, he then continued “The miracle recoveries he’s made before I’ve got no doubt he’ll be out there next week even if it’s in crutches”.
It was vintage Wayne Bennett today –
“It’s only a distraction if you let it be.”
“If I start listening to the critics it won’t be long before I’m sitting with them.”
“Mark Nicholls is one of the guys you love coaching.”
“The Goats ready.”
In todays Zoom press conference Wayne Bennett revealed that the Kangaroos suffered a heavy defeat to the Kiwis on their 1971 Kangaroo tour of New Zealand in which he was a member of the squad.
Wayne Bennett & Brian Fitzsimmons were the only 2 players in the squad that didn’t play in the NSWRL competition.
The Kangaroos only win was the first game of the 3 match tour, losing the remaining 2 including the test match 24-3.
Wayne Bennett played in 2 tour games & scored 1 try but missed selection in the test match.
In today’s Zoom press conference Wayne Bennett confirmed the team named will run out tomorrow. Wayne also revealed that he is in favour of player loans but as yet the Rabbitohs haven’t been involved.
Grant Chappell reports- “Souths will run out 1-17 in tomorrow night’s top 4 clash at Suncorp Stadium against the Penrith Panthers, right centre Campbell Graham to play for the first time since round 18. It will also be the return of the NRL’s leading try scorer Alex Johnson.
What’s your prediction? Mine is Souths 13 + Campbell Graham to score a double.”
After our man Chaps asked Wayne Bennett if he’s going to get takeaway from Grappa, his friends at the club helped him out & ordered for him.
The South Sydney Rabbitohs broke their 3 game losing streak on Saturday afternoon 13th June 2020 at Bankwest Stadium, Sydney with a 32-12 victory over the Gold Coast Titans.
This victory song has traditionally been sung by the team for decades dating back to the Bunnies glory days. We can’t give you the exact date it began to be used but perhaps there’s a Bunnies historian reading this now that could enlighten us. Mavo & Browny love singing the tune because it brings back memories of wins with their mates.
The songs lyrics are-
“Now that we’re all around the bar
And the captains declared it a quorum
We’re drinking our way through the night
And we’re having the time of our lives
Throw the empties away start again, start again
For the boys of South of South Sydney are together
And we’ll drink til the dawn breaks again
May the sessions of South Sydney last forever
Up the Rabbitohs!”
